As part of the 2022-27 Bond Project, San Antonio city officials are adding a series of improvements in Classen-Steubing Ranch Park as part of Phase 2 of the park’s master plan.

What you need to know

According to city documents, city officials will begin Phase 2 of park improvements at Classen-Steubing Ranch Park, and will upgrade the park within available funds.

Phase 2 improvements include:
  • Adding shading to the playground
  • Adding Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible walkways to ball field
  • Adding soccer backstops
  • Building multipurpose play courts
  • Building a 20-to-25-space parking lot
  • Building a two-stall restroom
  • Adding up to two shade canopies
  • Building a 30-space parking lot
  • Building a 20-space parking lot
  • Building a 60-to-70-space parking lot
  • Building storage shed
  • Refurbishing trail head
  • Building overlook
  • Adding interpretive signage
Construction is estimated to begin in spring and be completed by summer 2026.

Classen-Steubing Ranch Park formally opened May 17, 2023. Phase 1 of the project cost $9.15 million and was funded by the voter-approved 2017 bond. According to the project dashboard, the 2017 bond funded approximately 180 projects with $850 million.

Currently, Classen-Steubing Ranch Park features walking trails, a small pavilion and parking lot near the park entry, a larger pavilion with bathrooms, picnic tables, a second parking lot farther into the park, a baseball field, two soccer fields, two softball fields and the destination playground known as Mitchell's Landing.
